Dominiak Cues Tour Stops in Ayer, MA.
Sunday February 28th the Dominiak Cues Northeast 10-Ball Tour came to Ayer, MA for tour stop #12 at the popular BilliardsCafe. The tour would like to once again thank owner Calvin Moore and the staff for being a great host to the tour.
The doors opened at 11am sharp and we saw a strong field filtering in on this beautiful morning in the northeast. We saw many tour regulars walk in the door ready to play, including tour regulars Tim Haley, Chuck Hill, Rodney Polak, Gene Hunt, Mike Wheeler, Brandt Davies, Seth and Chaneyi Tenzin and Jerry Brayson. Also in attendence were many new faces to the tour including Norm Wadden, Derek McCarthy, Jon Furey, Jim Nadeau, Alex Alpert and his 8 year old son Jake Alpert were both entered.
The top half of the winners bracket would see tour newcommer Norm Wadden steadily making his way to the hot seat match after starting off with a bye in the opening round, then with a win over Jim Nadeau. In the third round of the winners side Norm drew 8 year old Jake Alpert (yes Jake won his first match!) and Norm lost the first game to Jake in this match but eventually sent Jake to the B side of the chart, then he defeated Gene Hunt to gain a spot in the hot seat match of the winners side brackets. The bottom half of the winners side would see previous multiple tour stop winner Chuck Hill make his way to the hot seat to play Norm Wadden with wins over junior player Brandt Davies, Derek McCarthy and Mike Wheeler. The hot seat match would prove to be very close between Chuck and Norm, but Norm Wadden came up with the win to send Chuck Hill to the 1 loss side and wait for an opponent for the finals.
The 1 loss side would see the runner-up the last stop in Ayer Bill Glen making his way through the 1 loss side with several wins with visions of getting to waiting Chuck Hill. But Bill was stopped short by Gene Hunt and had to settle for a strong 4th place finish.. Chuck Hill and Gene hunt would battle to see who would have a shot at Norm Wadden in the finals. The short race to 3 on the losers side would prove to be the final match of the day for Chuck as Gene snapped the 10 ball in twice and ran out the last game after Chuck left an opening on a safety. Congrats to Chuck Hill on another strong finish on tour for 3rd place!
Around 7pm the 1 set finals was called to the table between Norm Wadden and Gene Hunt. Gene was looking for his first tour stop win after several 2nd place finishes, and he looked geared up to do it today. Early on it was a back and forth match, then with the score 2-1 in favor of Norm Wadden, Norm then took control of the match to take a commanding lead at 4-1 in the race to 5. The lead proved to be to much for Gene to overcome and Norm Wadden went on for the win of tour stop #12! Congrats to Gene Hunt for a very good performance and strong 2nd place finish.
