Dominiak Cues Northeast Tour results stop #1 in Ayer, Ma.

The new Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour kicked off on Saturday January 10th at the beautiful Billiards Cafe in Ayer, Ma. with a strong field of 27 players from throughout the northeast despite the snow storm warning. Players made the trek from Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Massachusetts in attempt to capture the first $500 added cash & prizes Dominiak Cues Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop title, the cash and as bonus a new Dominiak cue for the winner!

Notable players in attendence were NH State Amateur 8-Ball Champ Fred "Cornerman" Agnir, Women's New England Tour stars Liz Taylor, Dena Brayson and Katie Fiorilla, New England 9-Ball Tour regular Rick Gatta,  Western Ma. APA top gun and our official tour photographer Rob Francoeur, 14and1.com Nationals top 5 finisher Steve Hathaway, as well as Bill Glenn, Tom Glenn and Kerry McAuliffe all home area guns. Kudos to 89 year old Francis Renda for playing and inspiring us all.

The double elimination format would see Rob Francoeur make his way through the 1 loss side after suffering a 4th round winners side loss to Liz Taylor. Along the 1 loss side trek Francoeur survived some close matches against Fred Agnir and Kerry McAuliffe,  waiting for Rob in the final match of the 1 loss side to make the finals was Liz Taylor once again.  This match with Liz playing confidently after sending Rob to the 1 loss side earlier, and Rob wanting revenge for that earlier loss would prove to be a nip and tuck with neither player wanting give up anything, at hill/hill Liz was left with a tough table length cut on the 9 ball that was on the rail about a diamond away, but unforunately it hung in the jaws and left Rob only the 9 and 10 balls to get out. Congrats to Liz Taylor on a fine effort and 3rd place finish.

This set up the one race to 5 finals between Bill Glenn and Rob Francoeur. Bill made his way undefeated to the hot seat on the winners side by defeating some good players and hanging in there in some close matches, along the way to the finals defeating Ricky Sleper, Rick Gatta, Steve Hathaway, Kerry McAuliffe and finally sending Liz Taylor over to the 1 loss side in the hot seat match.

Around 7pm were were ready for the 1 race to 5 finals between Bill Glenn and Rob Francoeur for the cheese and the winner would recieve a new Dominiak Cue on top of the 1st place cash prize.  Rob came out of the gate fairly strong to take a 3-0 lead.  But only to see Bill climb back into the match to make the score 3-2. In the next rack Bill got a ball in hand and looked like the match might get tied up, but only to watch the cue ball trickle into the side pocket and give ball in hand back to Rob where he cleared the table to get to the hill 4-2. Rob broke dry the next game and now Bill has a chance to try and climb back into the match, but another unfortunate scratch gave Rob ball in hand again which proved to be the final nail. Rob Francoeur wins the first Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop 5-2.

The tour was happy to have 3 Women entries and 2 Juniors under 18 to round out the field. Women and Juniors recieve free entry fees at all tour stops, a great incentive for women and inspiring junior pool enthusiasts to get out and enjoy competition, both must pay table time and membership but the $25 entry into the tournaments are free. Dominiak Cues Northeast Tour results stop #2 in Latham, NY.

The Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop #2 was held on Saturday February 7th at the beautiful Diamond Eight Billiards in Latham, NY  with a strong field of 28 players from throughout the northeast. Players made the trek from Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, as well as the local NY top guns, in attempt to capture the title to the $500 added cash & prizes Dominiak Cues Tour stop.

Notable players in attendence were APA Olympics Senior Champ Tom Acciavatti, 14.1 enthusiast Chuck Hill, New Hampshire's Scott Dwyer, Springfield's Tony Hubbard, tour stop #1 winner Rob Francoeur, and local area guns Shawn Moulton, Lee Lemieux and Frank Rich. Also in attendence and taking advantage of the free entry for juniors was 13 year old Ethan Early, who came all the way from Pennsylvania to compete and make his presence felt.

The double elimination format would see Chuck Hill make his way through top half of the winners side playing steady and confidently. On the bottom half of the winners side chart it was local player Shawn Moulton who made his way to the hot seat match with Chuck Hill. This match proved to be a battle, at hill/hill Chuck left an opening for Shawn which he took full advantage of and ran out to send Chuck to the 1 loss side.

Waiting for Chuck for the right to make the finals on the 1 loss side was Tom Acciavatti. Tom had lost an early round match, and in typical Tom Acciavatti style, grit his teeth and dug in to defeat tough opponents Lee Lemieux, Rob Francoeur and Frank Rich in some close matches to get a shot at playing Chuck for the winner of the 1 loss side, and a shot at Shawn Moulton in the finals. But Chuck Hill had his sights on getting another chance at Shawn in the finals and was able to eliminate Tom in a great hill/hill match.

The finals would prove to be almost a mirror of the first match between Chuck Hill and Shawn Moulton on the winners side. Both playing steadily and deliberately the match went hill/hill (4-4) in the 1 race to 5 finals. The final rack was nip and tuck with a couple trouble balls on the table and neither player wanting to give an opening. Chuck finally got an opening and was on a very nice run only to mis a tough 7 ball, but left Shawn downtable a bit with the cue ball, and the 7 ball rolled up just a shade past the side pocket, leaving a thin cut on the 7 into the side and 2 or 3 rail shape for the eight, although a tough shot it was makeable. Shawn took aim after contemplating a bit and deciding a good safety was not available, he fired at the 7 ball but it was not to be today, he left Chuck with a roadmap to the win which he steadily ran out for the title, first place cash and new Dominiak Cue. We had a great day of pool in Latham, NY and Diamond Eight Billiards was a superb host.

Our next tour stop will be held in Springfield, Ma on sunday February 22nd.  All amateurs are encouraged to come out and play on the tour. All league players are eligible as well as all non-pro players.

Hope to see you at the next tour stop!

The Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop #3 was held on Sunday February 22nd at the popular Snookers Billiards in Springfield, Ma. despite mother nature raising havock here in the northeast once again on tournament day. A fiesty field of 24 players from throughout the northeast ignored the blizzard warnings and made the trek from Connecticut, New Hampshire and New York as well as several local Massachusetts players in attempt to capture the title to the 3rd $500 added cash & prizes Dominiak Cues Northeast 10 Ball Tour stop.

Notable players in attendence were some of the northeast's toughest amateurs including the always tough Tim Hurley, tour stop #2 winner Chuck Hill, New Hampshire's Chris Anastaspoulos, tour stop #1 winner Rob Francoeur, tour regulars Kevin Blackstock, Tom Acciavatti, Fred "Cornerman" Agnir and Dana Kroll, along with Connecticut's Ryan Bijur and Justin Kessler. Also in attendence were several local area top players including Gene Hunt, Josh Lerner, Russ Manley, Tim Haley and Tony Hubbard.  Taking advantage of the free entry for women was Jocelyn Caisse who made sure she kept some of the guys wiggling in there chair a bit throughout the tournament by showing her shotmaking capabilities in tough situations. Nice showing Jocelyn!

The double elimination format would see Dana Kroll make his way through top half of the winners side brackets with steady shotmaking and good decisions. After drawing a bye in the opening round Dana scored wins over some tough opponents incuding Chip Tibbetts, Russ Manley and Kevin Blackstock to reach the hot seat match. On the bottom half of the winners side chart it was Chicapee's Tim Hurley playing steady as usual and in some very close matches defeating tour regulars Scott Dwyer, Chris Anastaspoulos and Fred Agnir for the right to play in the hot seat match with Dana Kroll. This match proved to be a tough battle but in the end Tim pulled it out for the right to play in the 1 set race to 5 finals.

Meanwhile on the 1 loss side it was New York's Tom Acciavatti, who had lost an early round match, making his way steadily through the B side of the chart and battling to win some hill/hill matches to get a shot at playing Tim Hurley in the finals for the cheese plus the new Dominiak Cue to the winner. Along the way on the 1 loss side Tom sent home Rob Francoeur, Mike Wheeler, Russ Manley, Tony Hubbard, Fred Agnir and Kevin Blackstock before he and Dana Kroll battled it out to see who makes the finals. In the end Tom's experience showed through and Dana had to settle for a very respectable and hard fought 3rd place today.

The stage was set around 7pm for the finals of the Dominiak Cues Tour Stop #3 between Tim Hurley and Tom Acciavatti in the 1 race to 5 finals format. Tom jumped out to an early 3-0 lead with some great shotmaking and brilliant safety play, being well aware of Tim's firepower he didn't let Tim get off to any kind of a start. The winner breaks format saw Tom crush the break in rack 4 and the 10 ball headed straight into the corner for win #4 in the race to 5. Down 4-0 Tim was not about to give up though, and patiently awaited an opening to try and get back into the match. Rack #5 saw Tom make a ball on the break but with shooting a tough 4 ball he scratched in the side and left Tim an opening. Tim ran out to make the score 4-1 and possibly a come back was in the making. The next game saw a safety battle ensue,  Tim got an opening and is on a runout but it wasn't to be today for Tim as he was unable to capitalize. Tom Acciavatti gets the opening he needs and takes home the title for tour stop #3. Great shooting to both players throughout!

Our next tour stop will be held at Casey's Billiards in Pittsfield, Ma. on Sunday March 1st, doors open for practice at 11am.  All amateurs are encouraged to come out and play on the tour. The Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop #4 was held on Sunday March 1st at the popular Casey's Billiards in Pittsfield, Ma. Despite yet another snow storm warning issued here in the northeast once again on tournament day. A field of 21 players from throughout the northeast ignored the blizzard warnings again and made the trek from Connecticut, Vermont, New York and Massachusetts in attempt to capture the title to the 4th $500 added cash & prizes Dominiak Cues Northeast 10 Ball Tour stop.

Many tour regulars were in attendence including Jonah Okun, Chuck Hill, Brandon Charin, Ben Gauthier, Shawn Moulton, Tom Acciavatti, Gene Hunt, George Acker, Rogers Hill, Rodney Polak, Steve Hathaway and Dana Kroll. Also in attendence were several local area top players including Mark Swirsky, Art Houghtaling, Rob Francoeur and Doug Wabnig.

The double elimination format would see Gene Hunt make his way through top half of the winners side brackets with a bye in the opening round then wins over Chuck Hill and Doug Wabnig. Next up for Gene was New York's red hot Tom Acciavatti to determine who gets to play in the hot seat match, this match would go back and forth until Tom sealed it at hill/hill sending Gene to the 1 loss side and advancing to the winners side final match. On the bottom half of the winners side chart it was Rogers Hill showing his shotmaking skills and in some very close matches defeating tour regulars Art Houghtaling, Rob Francoer and Shawn Moulton for the right to play in the hot seat match with Tom Acciavatti. This match proved to be a tough battle but in the end Rogers Hill pulled it out for the right to play in the 1 set race to 5 finals.

Meanwhile on the 1 loss side waiting for Gene Hunt was Pittsfield's Mark Swirsky, who had lost an early round match,  but making his way steadily through the B side of the chart and battling to win some hill/hill matches.  In a closely contested match Gene won this one when Mark hung the 10 ball at hill/hill. Next up for Gene was New York's Shawn Moulton and Gene pulled that one out as well leaving him only Tom Acciavatti in his way to get to the finals with Rogers Hill. Tom Acciavatti used all his experience in this match to advance to the finals for the second tour stop in a row, and Gene Hunt finishing out with a respectable strong 3rd place finish.

The stage was set around 7pm for the finals of the Dominiak Cues Tour Stop #4 between Rogers Hill and Tom Acciavatti in the 1 race to 5 finals format. Tom jumped out to an early lead after a couple of unforced errors by Rogers Hill, it was apparent that sitting for a while Rogers had cooled off just a bit. This one was all Tom Acciavatti as he kept up the great shotmaking and brilliant safety play to take home his second tour stop title in a row!. Tom will now have to give up 1 game on the wire in every match throughout the rest of the 2009 tour season. Great shooting to both players throughout!

Notably, Tom Acciavatti pulled out his new Dominiak Cue he won in tour stop #3, chalked it up and played this tour stop to the winners circle with it! Afterward he stated "I love that Dominiak Cue"!

Dominiak Cues Northeast Tour results stop #6 in Worcester, MA.

The Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop #6 was held on Easter Sunday April 12th hosted by the popular London Billiards in Worcester, MA. A fiesty field of 19 players from throughout the northeast made the trek from Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York and Massachusetts in attempt to capture the title of the 6th Dominiak Cues tour stop of the season.

Many tour regulars were in attendence including Kevin Blackstock, Ken DeBroske, Chuck Hill, Rob Francoeur, Gene Hunt, Mike Wheeler, Al Yagmin, Brandon Charin, Jonah Okun, Kevin Sun and Joe Sobowicz. This tour stop saw many new faces in attendence as well, we welcomed Richard Barrette, Gary Chen and his girl Annie, David Bowden, Jolie Brancaccio, Pot Danh and Duane Renzi to the tour.  Two women and junior Kevin Sun took advantage of the free entry for both women and juniors on all tour stops.

The day started off with a festive atmosphere on easter sunday, but once the bell rang to start the double elimination format the game faces were on! We extended the race to 5 on the winners side and 4 on the loosers side since we had a shorter field because of the holiday.  As the day went on we saw Brandon Charin make his way through top half of the winners side brackets with wins over Jolie Brancaccio, Justin Kesler, Pot Danh and Richard Barrette to take his spot in the one set race to 6 finals finals. On the botton half of the winners side it was Richard Barrette making his way through the field with wins over Annie, Rob Francoeur and Ken DeBroske, but only to get sent to the loosers side by Brandon in the hot seat match.

Meanwhile making his way steadily through the 1 loss side of the chart and battling to win some hill/hill matches after a first round loss was Joe Sobowicz. Next up for Joe was Kevin Blackstock who had just defeated the always tough Chuck Hill, and Kevin also had the finals in his sights after a second place finish at the last tour stop. Kevin defeated Joe in a close match to hold Joe to a hard fought 4th place finish.  Next up for Kevin was Richard Barrette who also wanted a shot at Brandon again in the finals. A hill/hill match ended with Richard on top when Kevin came up a bit short on position and missed a tough cut. The finals match would be a rematch between Brandon Charin and Richard Barrette and this proved to be a closely contested battle, as was their earlier winners side match. Brandon made some nice outs early on to take a 3-0 lead in the race to 6 finals, but in game 4 Brandon hung the 10 ball and opened the door for Richard to come through. The next game went to Richard as well making it 3-2 and the battle was on! But in the end Brondon was able to take advantage of a couple unforced errors and take home the title to tour stop #6 with a finals score of 6-4. Congrats to the top finishers and all the players that attended for a great easter sunday of pool!

Dominiak Cues Northeast Tour results stop #7 in Springfield, MA.

The Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour stop #7 was held on Sunday April 26th hosted by the popular Snookers Billiards in Springfield, MA. A reved up and ready field of 34 players from throughout the northeast made the trek from Vermont, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Massachusetts in attempt to capture the title of the 7th Dominiak Cues tour stop of the season.

Many tour regulars were in attendence including Joe Sobowicz, Ken DeBroske, Chuck Hill, Rogers Hill, Gene Hunt, Mike Wheeler, Steve Hathaway, Brandon Charin, Dana Kroll, Tim Haley, Jerry & Dena Brayson, Rodney Polak and Art Houghtaling. This tour stop saw many new faces in attendence as well. We welcomed to the tour Wade Hill, Jeremy Bean and Dave Hanbly all from Vermont, Pete Brown, Darren Jevons, Janet Tycks and Renee.  Five women in attendence took advantage of the free entry and kicked in the $30 bonus for top female finisher after 3 women entries. Both women of all ages and juniors under 18 recieve free entry on all tour stops, both pay only the $10 table time.

The beautiful sunny Sunday made for a nice morning drive to Snookers for players after a long winter and everyone was in a sunny mood, but once the draw started everyone was ready to rock and roll!  The day started off seeing tour newcomer Jeremy Bean make his way through top half of the winners side brackets with wins over Tim Haley, Rick Barrette, Chuck Hill and Gene Hunt to take his spot in the hot seat match. On the botton half of the winners side it was Jerry Brayson making his way through the field with wins over Greg Anzellotti, Wade Hill, Dana Kroll and Steve Hathaway to gain a spot in the hotseat match with Jeremy Bean. In a tightly contested battle Jerry Brayson came out victorious and earned a spot in the finals.

Meanwhile making his way steadily through the 1 loss side of the chart and battling to win some very close matches was Dana Kroll with B side wins over Pete Brown, Rick Barrette, Gene Hunt and Steve Hathaway. Next up for Dana to see who meets Jerry Brayson in the finals, and waiting for another shot, was Jeremy Bean who had been sent to the B side by Jerry Brayson. This match went hill/hill with Dana coming out on top of the battle. Congrats to Jeremy for a hard fought 3rd place finish!

The finals match would be a tough call to pick a winner over the red hot Dana Kroll and the steady experienced play of Jerry Brayson. Jerry had to wait for some time as the B side finished out and some maybe thought he could go cold while waiting and Dana had been playing and just came off a hill/hill match. This didn't turn out to be the case, Jerry came out of the box to take a 3-1 lead in the race to 5 finals. Dana battled back into the match with some great shots to tie it up at 3-3.  But in the next game the 9 ball was very close to the 10 ball and didn't have a pocket and no combo available, Dana didn't get to a rail on a safety attempt and Jerry was able to easily take ball in hand on the 9 and 10 to make it 4-3. In the end Jerry Brayson was able to take advantage of a couple unforced errors and take home the title to tour stop #7 with a finals score of 5-3. Congrats to the top finishers and all the players that attended for a great day of pool!

Also a shout out for Chuck Hill giving up a game on the wire as a multi-tour stop winner and grinding out a 5/6th place finish to get enough tour points to win "Tour Player Of The Year"! This effort tied Chuck with Tom Acciavatti both ending at 255 tour points, but Chuck won the tiebreaker with more season match wins than Tom as he attended every tour stop. Chuck will accept the award at the tour finale July 18th.

Our next tour stop and 2009 tour finale will be held at Pool Table Magic in Winsor Locks, CT on Saturday July 18th. Doors open for practice at noon and play will begin at 1pm.  All amateurs are encouraged to come out and play on the tour. All league players are eligible as well as all non-pro players. The 2009 season of the Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour concluded with its tour finale July 18th hosted by the beautiful Pool Table Magic in Windor Locks, CT. Along with the tour finale Mark Kulungian owner also hosted his annual Meet & Greet Cue Show. The combination of events created a memorable day for pool fans in the northeast as there was a full house all day and 2 deep to the bar and kitchen. Some of the top cuemakers and dealers were in attendence to show their amazing cues throughout the day and evening.

After everyone had a chance to start drooling over all the gorgeous cues tournament director Kevin Vidal called signups for the tournament around noon. After a quick season tour awards ceremony 40 players signed up and we were ready to rock and roll in the race to four $20 entry 10-Ball event. The 2 Women who took advantage of the free entry for all women on the Dominiak Tour were Janet Tycks and Renee. 2 Juniors also took advantage of the free entry for under 18 juniors on tour, they were Brandt Davies and Kevin Sun in attendence. Chuck Hill recieved a free entry as well for player of the year honors winning the 2009 point standings race.

Tom Acciavatti was steadily making his way through the top half of the winners side with wins over Mike Wheeler, Josh Lerner, Kevin Blackstock then 13 year old junior sensation Kevin Sun to reach the hot seat match. On the bottom half of the winners side we saw Chris Grader make his way to the hot seat match with Tom accumulating wins over Scott Winchell, Eric Tang, Roger Lakotko and lastly a win over Richard Barrett. This hot seat match between Tom and Chris would go hill/hill with Tom Acciavatti coming out on top in a very close match to take a seat in the finals.

On the 1 loss side there was several very close battles going on. The top half of the 1 loss side saw Ryan Bijur battling his way through after an early loss taking down wins in 5 matches until he ran into Roger Lakotko who was waiting after suffering his recent loss on the winners side. Roger came out on top in this close one then quickly got called to his next match with Shen who was also battling his way through in the same bracket. Roger's day ended in 7/8 place as Shen pulled this one out to move on to waiting junior sensation Kevin Sun. With steady shotmaking and brilliant safeties Kevin Sun kept this match in control and ended Shen's day in 5/6th. The bottom half of the 1 loss side would see Drew Smith rolling along with 7 wins in a row after a first round loss. Starting of the 1 loss side he caught a bye then scored wins over Jonah Okun, Eric Tang, Jason Hutchins, Kevin Bachio, Kevin Blackstock and Richard Barrett to meet up with Kevin Sun. Both players played brilliantly but in a close match Drew was able to send Kevin Sun home in 4th place. Waiting for Drew in the final match to the finals was Chris Grader who had been sent earlier by Tom Acciavatti. Another hill/hill battle ensued between Chris Grader and Drew Smith with Drew coming out on top for a clean sweep of the 1 loss side for Drew to make the finals.

About 10pm Tom Acciavatti and Drew Smith were called to the table for the 1 race to 5 finals for the cheese! Both players had been playing great all day and they both carried it into the finals as we saw some great shooting and safety play from both. The match stayed close trading wins until a couple small errors from Drew opened the door for Tom to take advantage late in the match. Tom Acciavatti went on to win 5-3 in the finals and takes home the title of tour finale champion.
