Dominiak Cues Tour swings through New Milford, CT
On Sunday December 6th the Dominiak Cues Northeast 10-Ball Tour swung through New Milford, CT for tour stop #6 at the popular Buster's Billiards. The tour would like to thank owner Art Pappas and his staff for being a great host to the tour.
Even though mother nature had decided to bring our first snowstorm in the northeast the evening before we saw many tour regulars walk in the door along with a host of local players ready to chalk up and get it on.
The top half of the winners bracket would see tour regular Gene Hunt, who started the event in 5th place in tour point standings, make his way to the hot seat match with steady shotmaking by scoring wins over local player Mike Fioccola in the opening round, then 2 more wins over locals Bill Jimenez and Vinny Shea. The bottom half of the winners side would see houseman Stan Wilk make his way to the hot seat with Gene Hunt with strong wins over Mel Jimenez (the lone woman in the field and free entry), then wins over tour regular Glen Towle and Chuck Hill. The hot seat match would see Stan take an early lead, Gene fought back but in the end Stan would go on and wait for an opponent in the finals. Gene hunt would take his seat on the 1 loss side and wait for an opponent to try and get back at Stan in the finals.
The 1 loss side would see 2 tour regulars, Tony Hubbard and Steve Parise steadily make their way all the way through the 1 loss side aftyer early losses and play each other to see who plays Gene Hunt to make the finals. This match was tight but Tony Hubbard came with a few very good safeties and took advantage of a couple scratches by Steve Parise to clinch the match and take on Gene Hunt next to see who makes the 1 race finals. This match between Gene and Tony went back and forth early but Gene Hunt siezed opportunity and took the match by 2 games and advanced to the finals against Stan Wilk. Congrats to Tony Hubbard for a hard fought 3rd place finish.
Around 7pm the 1 set finals was called to the table between Gene Hunt and Stan Wilk. Stan had sent Gene to the 1 loss side in the winners side hot seat match and Gene was ready for the rematch. Gene took off to a strong early lead of 4-0, looking like it might be over he scratched on the 9 ball and gave up that game to make it 4-1. Stan clawed back and won the next 2 games to make it 4-3. In the next game Stan lined up a beautiful 5-10 carom shot and smoothly nailed it. The next game would see Gene get his opportunity to seal the match with an open table. He smoothly ran out down to the 10 ball and left himself a decent shot on the 10 to take home the title. But, the 10 rattled out on his shot and went up table and stayed on the rail about half way to the side pocket, the cue ball went up table on the other side and left Stan a very difficult angle shot. Without even thinking Stan brought out his banking capabilities and drilled it table length cross corner like it had eyes to take home the title to tour stop #6. Congrats to Gene Hunt for a very good performance and strong 2nd place finish.
Gene Hunt was also the winning ticket holder of the beautiful Dominiak Cue donated by Bill Dominiak. Bill generously donates a new beautiful cue to every tour stop in support of pool players.
