Dominiak Cues Northeast 10-Ball Tour Stop #3 goes to Bruce DeFranzo
--------------------------------------------------
Tour stop #3 of the Dominiak Cues Northeast Amateur 10-Ball Tour was hosted by Pool Table Magic in Windsor Locks, CT on Saturday October 24th with a strong field of 29 players.
Regular tour players Tim Haley, Brandon Charin, Jonah Okun, Mike Wheeler, Gene Hunt and Pete Brown were in attendence. Many new faces were also in attendence including Steve Parise, Bruce DeFranzo, Eli Schallhorn and Lou Roy. This stop saw 3 female players in the field taking advantage of the free entry for all women. Janet Tycks took home the top female finisher honors over Renee and Mary Lou Hunchak. Brandt Davies was the lone junior also taking advantage of the free entry for junior players under 18. Players came from Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Rhode Island in attempt to capture the title of tour stop #3.
The top half of the winners side brackets saw tour newcommer Steve Parise make his way to the hotseat match with closely contested matches over Lou DaSilva, Lou Roy, Pete Brown and Lee Lemieux. On the bottom half of the winners side chart another tour newcommer Bruce DeFranzo was playing steady after he caught a bye in the first round and continued to the hotseat match with wins over Chuck Hill, Rich Andle and Brandon Charin. The hotseat match between Steve Parise and Bruce DeFranzo saw Bruce display his shotmaking skills and come out on top to advance to the finals. Steve Parise would take his seat on the 1 loss side and wait for an opponent to come through and try and get another shot at Bruce in the finals.
Former tour stop winner Brandon Charin would be the player that made his way through the 1 loss side to meet up with Steve Parise and play for a spot in the 1 race to 5 finals. Brandon was also sent to the 1 loss side earlier by Bruce DeFranzo so both players were looking to avenge that earlier loss. This match went back and forth with Steve Parise coming out on top. This set up the rematch between Bruce DeFranzo and Steve Parise in the race to 5 finals.
The finals kicked off about 8pm and the tour format is a 1 race to 5 finals at all tour stops. Both players were showing excellent their shotmaking and safety skills from the start of the match, but with the score at 3-3 Steve left himself a very thin cut on the 10 ball and could not control the cueball on the shot and unfortunately scratched in the side pocket. This opening left Bruce with ball in hand on the respotted 10 ball. Now needing 1 game leading 4-3 he smoothly ran out the final game when he had the opening and took home the title of tour stop #3.
Jim Leach from Long Island held the winning ticket for the new beautiful Dominiak Cue. Every player entered receives a raffle ticket for a new Dominiak Cue at every tour stop this season.
